Not everyone gets to choose how they die, (hopefully it’s of natural causes late in life) but you can decide how you would like to be buried.
When it comes to death you have the choice of how you’d like to make your exit. Most would go with a more traditional ceremony like being buried in the ground or having their ashes scattered at a selected location, but for some these traditional options just won’t do.
For the non-conformists there is a whole new type of way to conclude your funeral – and they are options we bet you had never considered.
Here are the top five funerals you never thought you’d consider:
Diamond: Elizabeth Taylor said, “you can’t cry on a diamond’s shoulder, and diamonds won’t keep you warm at night, but they’re sure fun when the sun shines.” From just R60 000, you can turn your ashes into a diamond; by extracting the carbon from the ashes. Your ashes are heated and then converted into graphite. The graphite is then heated to as high as 2 700 degrees, and you become a diamond. Did we mention you get to choose, what colour, shape and setting you’d like?
Tree: Want to join nature, and let the birds sing to you all day? Let’s turn you into a tree, and convert your grave into a tree. A fully biodegradable urn is composed of two parts, a seed and your ashes. Here you will grow into a tree and have it named after you, oh and it’s organic.
Coral Reef: Join Ariel and Flounder under the sea, and become a coral reef… An artificial habitat for the marine environment, this is a natural habitat created for fish to swim through. The memorial reef is created by concrete which your ashes are mixed into. Your loved ones would then rub bronze plaque onto the concrete, ensuring that once dropped into the sea, you are surrounded by life, and of course mermaids.
Fireworks: Go out with a bang and turn into fireworks instead. Here, a small amount of the cremation ashes are placed into the mixture of specially modified fireworks. You then get to choose (while you’re alive), a date and time you’d like your ashes to explode into fireworks.
Attend your own funeral: Ever wanted to see who would really mourn your death? Here is a rather unique option: attend your own funeral. You would get first choice of where you’d like to sit, be able to rehearse your funeral with your selected loved ones, and then of course choose the perfect outfit to exit out in.
Either which way you decide, it’s important to get funeral cover to ensure that you get to leave the way you’d like to, and give your family peace of mind.
