Let’s begin with the first and most important question of them all: What is a Capsule Closet?
Started in the 70’s, a capsule wardrobe is a compact and staple wardrobe of high quality, coordinating colours, containing only 33 items – including shoes and accessories. Note: The first 30 items are the irreplaceable ones that you absolutely love, and the other 3 items are the pieces that you buy seasonally, which are trending.
You’re probably thinking, what normal person is even capable of being disciplined enough to only have 33 items? Be grateful, the number was originally 12.
But why? The benefits:
More time: A capsule closet gives you more time. Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg are famous for wearing the same items of clothing every day. Reasons are said to be, because they both have too many important decisions to make each day and believe that what they are wearing shouldn’t be one of them. Many also believe that this is a personality trait of being (extremely) highly intelligent.
“I really want to clear my life to make it so that I have to make as few decisions as possible about anything except how to best serve this community.” – Mark Zuckerberg
More money: Minimalists have gone full force by building on their existing good quality items and buying only carefully considered pieces. By spending more on quality and cutting out fads, these style savvy fashionista’s are not only on trend, but are also saving a ton of buck!
A classic look: By being able to narrow down your closet to only a few staple and basic pieces, not only have you created a style that is distinct, you have more clothes that look great on you. By buying less and buying better – you don’t have less clothes, you actually have more clothes that you wear – oh and space.
Remember: Underwear, pajamas and gym-wear are excluded from your capsule wardrobe.
